Course Date: 6th and 7th of October 2008

Our Basic Carbon Composites Course is the widest ranging and most intensive composites training course privately available in the UK - Why do 3 or 4 courses to learn the same techniques?

We all have to start somewhere and in the composites industry it's always been a case of chicken and egg. Working in a composites bay somewhere means you need to have some experience behind you, but to get the experience you need to have worked in the industry! So we looked for an existing training course to refer people to, but the only ones we could find were very expensive, didn't cover enough in one go - or where very infrequent. Not good enough we said... Let's run our own courses.

Carbonology supplies training to all manor of composite companies in a wide range of market sectors - Our own composite training courses are run for a maximum group size of 6 people so we can cover more and 70% of the training is practical and that means real hands on time, learning the text book techniques - and industry 'cheats' from Dave Chisholm, our widely experienced technical director and trainer. Dave was a mechanical trades and airframe structures instructor for the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy for 4 years before moving into composites full time, firstly in aircraft structures in front line service in the Navy, then racing yachts, mast building and finally race car and performance sports equipment. We still wheel him out to build racing sailboats and race car parts from time to time so his knowledge is wide ranging and totally up to date.

The aim of the course is to give a thorough grounding in composite processing techniques and materials to enable the student to: Understand why certain materials are used, how to build patterns, moulds and parts from scratch and set up their own composites workshop, considering equipment and tools that are required to do so. You will laminate a variety of parts and test pieces throughout the course and we put together a range of demonstrations of techniques.
