Safety & Hints

It's very easy for people to say 'Oh you should have done it like this' or 'I wouldn't have done it like that' but we would rather give you advice BEFORE you get going - or at least some that you can use during your project!

Not only do we have a lot of technical know how, we also have a lot of 'hands-on' experience so we know most of the easy ways to do things  - but we are always careful so to start with , read these...

Health and Safety Notes:

  1. Always have an Eyewash Bottle/Fresh Water Wash and a First Aid Kit within easy reach when working with carbon fibre and epoxy resins.
  2. Splinters from carbon are common as are sharp edges on newly made parts. Be extremely careful when handling parts which have not been trimmed, and make items 'Finger Safe' as soon as you can - you never know who might pick them up and be yelping with a carbon splinter under their finger nail.
  3. Epoxy Resins are hazardous - and the Hardener in particular is dangerous. It is Corrosive and Toxic. Don't allow children to use them unsupervised and be extremely careful when handling these materials. If you take care and are sensible with them, they are very safe.
  4. Bearing the above points in mind, it is wise to wear protective clothing - Latex gloves and barrier creams offer good protection for hands, and goggles are a good precautiont when mixing resins.  Prolonged use of resin/hardener mix - or when using it in confined space, we would advise using a facemask.
  5. Avoid skin contact with resin (mixed or either part individually) - If resin comes into contact with skin, wash off immediately with detergent and rinse with clean water.
  6. When trimming carbon/epoxy parts with power tools or abrasives, it is ESSENTIAL to use goggles to keep splinters and trimming dust away from the eyes and a facemask to avoid inhallation of dust particles - both of which can be extremely hazardous.
